Procedures

Early Learning Center

  • ELC parents who have children in K-5 may choose to drop off their ELC student in the carpool lane following the guidelines listed in K–5, below. In order to choose this option the ELC student must have a sibling who can help them safely reach the ELC. Parent or caregiver sign-in is still required and can be completed in the carpool lane.
  • All other parents will be walking their children into the ELC daily. Please park in the primary section of the PBS lot by turning left immediately upon entering the lot. ELC parents may not park in the spots adjacent to the carpool lane. Doing so can be dangerous and slows the rest of carpool traffic.
    • Students and parents must wear face coverings starting from the time they leave their vehicles until the time they leave campus.
    • All families must use the crosswalk to safely access campus from the parking lot.
    • ELC families must enter campus via the gate next to the Head of School’s Office, not the main entrance.
    • Temperature and One Medical badge check will take place at the two ELC gates. Parents will not be permitted to enter the gates of the ELC; goodbyes must happen outside the gates.
    • Parents must depart campus immediately after their children are inside the ELC gates.
    • Only one adult per family is permitted on campus for drop-off.

K-5

  • Families with children in ELC and K–5 may choose to park, as above, and walk all their students in at the same time instead of going through the carpool lane. If so, please follow the guidelines in ELC, above. Students who walk onto campus this way instead of through the carpool lane must walk with their family to the ELC, where the ELC staff will take all students’ temperatures and check all students’ One Medical badges before allowing them to continue to their classrooms.
  • Students who arrive on foot or by bicycle must report with a parent or caregiver to the area outside the Health and Wellness Office to have their temperature checked and their One Medical badge verified. Parents must depart campus immediately after their children are permitted onto campus.
  • All other parents of K–5 students must use the carpool lane for drop-off. Parking and walking students onto campus – or having them walk onto campus alone – is not permitted. [See note 1.]
    • All passengers in the vehicle must be wearing a face covering as soon as they drive onto campus.

    • Drivers should proceed as far forward as possible in the carpool line (do not turn left into the primary section of the parking lot) until a staff member is ready to initiate temperature check and One Medical badge verification.

    • A member of the faculty will approach the car and ask that the window be lowered so that they can administer a touchless temperature check. Please present the child or children’s One Medical badges showing the current date. (Remember: badge must be green or blue. A red badge means the whole family may not enter campus.)

    • If the temperature reads below 100 ºF and the badge is verified, the faculty will ask the student to open the car door and will escort the child or children onto the sidewalk.

    • Drivers will proceed forward to exit the carpool line once their students are safely on the sidewalk and will turn right onto Avy Avenue.

    • As a reminder, no texting or mobile phone use is permitted while in the carpool line, even via hands-free devices.

[Note 1] During the first two weeks after students have returned to campus, parents with children in Kindergarten or new students may choose to walk their students to the main entrance of campus to ease this new and unfamiliar transition. Please follow these rules:

  • Please park in the primary section of the PBS lot by turning left immediately upon entering the lot. (Parents may not park in the spots adjacent to the carpool lane.)
  • Students and parents must wear face coverings starting from the time they leave their vehicles until the time they leave campus.
  • All families must use the crosswalk to safely access campus from the parking lot.
  • Report to the area outside the Health and Wellness Office to have the student’s temperature checked and their One Medical badge verified.
  • Parents must depart campus immediately after their children depart for class.

  • Parents and students must depart campus immediately after sign-out.
  • Only one adult per family is permitted on campus for pick-up.

K-5

  • Families with children in ELC and K–5 may choose to park, as above, and walk onto campus to pick up children at the same time instead of going through the carpool lane. If so, please follow the guidelines in ELC, above. Families who walk onto campus this way instead of through the carpool lane must:
    • Pick up their K–5 students first by stopping at the crosswalk and asking the crosswalk attendant to call for their students on the walkie-talkie.
    • Walk with their K–5 students to the ELC gate.
    • Sign out their ELC student and then immediately depart campus.
  • All other parents of K–5 students must use the carpool lane for pick-up. Parking and walking onto campus to pick up students is not permitted.
    • All passengers in the vehicle must be wearing a face covering as soon as they drive onto campus and until they depart campus.
    • Please ensure that the PBS-provided name placard is showing in the windshield so that cars can be easily matched with children. (Here’s how to download and print your placard.)
    • Drivers should proceed as far forward as possible in the carpool line (do not turn left into the primary section of the parking lot) until a staff member is ready to help your child or children into the car.
    • Children will wait in designated areas by grade level, physically distanced awaiting their name being called. Once they are called, they will proceed to the crosswalk area. A faculty member will then escort them to their vehicle. Children will open their own car door.
    • Drivers will proceed forward to exit the carpool line once they have their passengers secured and will turn right onto Avy Avenue.
    • As a reminder, no texting or mobile phone use is permitted while in the carpool line, even via hands-free devices.
