To the Classes of 2013, 2017, and 2020:
If this were a typical year, we would have gathered this afternoon with you and your parents to celebrate your milestone year. Each of you is starting a new chapter in your journey. Each of you has so much to look forward to in the months and years ahead. And we are so proud of all you’ve already accomplished – and all you will accomplish as you tread the path ahead of you.
But this is, of course, no normal year. It is not safe for us to gather on campus today and celebrate you all – and to look back on the many ways that the educators at PBS helped you carve your own path to being the awesome people you are today. Nevertheless, we couldn’t let today go by without acknowledging you as best we could. A number of your teachers and I have recorded a brief message which you can find above
One of my favorite elements of our Spring Ahead celebration is having our 5th-graders hear from our 8th- and 12th-graders, to hear a few words of wisdom from folks who were in their shoes not so long ago. And to keep that tradition alive, we are going to compile a video for the 5th-graders with your help. Here’s how:
Please record a brief video message telling the 5th-graders your name and your PBS class year, and answering this question: As you think back on your transition from PBS to middle school, what one piece of advice would you give the current PBS 5th graders? When you've recorded your message, head to this form to update your contact info and get the instructions for sharing your recording. If you send your recording by Wednesday, it will be included in a compilation we’ll share with the 5th-graders at their Graduation reception. (We’ll also send it to you so you can see your PBS classmates!)
If you'd like to update your contact info and let us know what is in store for you next year without uploading a video, that’s OK too.
The contact update form will also ask if you’d like for PBS to set up a Zoom reunion for your class sometime this summer. So if that’s something you’re interested in, please let us know.
Congratulations on your milestone year! We miss you and look forward to being together again in person. Be on the lookout for opportunities to get together at PBS when the time is right. Until then, warm wishes from your PBS friends.
All the best,
Scott Erickson (he/him)
