Director of Annual and Leadership Giving

The Director of Annual and Leadership Giving is responsible for managing fundraising efforts at Phillips Brooks School, including but not limited to, the Annual Fund, the Spring Benefit, and targeted major gift initiatives. Responsibilities include the cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation of donors, as well as event planning and support. This position reports to the Assistant Head of School for Advancement and Strategy and collaborates regularly with the greater Advancement Team and volunteer leadership to ensure the success of all development functions of the school. 

Key Responsibilities

  • In partnership with school leadership, develop strategies for leadership giving and solicitations efforts that promote the long-term viability and growth of the school.
  • Grow the Annual Fund through a yearly campaign encompassing current parents, current grandparents, faculty/staff, former parents, and alumni. Create, execute, and manage annual giving strategies, communications, and solicitations.
  • Manage the annual Spring Benefit event, including recruiting and managing volunteer committees, securing sponsorships and auction items, and supporting the event planning and execution.
  • Partner with the communications office to assure that the impact, integrity, and visibility of annual giving is maintained. Organize, produce, and maintain materials and data.
  • Manage and support parent volunteers to promote school projects and initiatives.
  • Support and develop future campaign plans in conjunction with the Assistant Head of School for Advancement and Strategy.
  • Create and execute special events appropriate to overall annual giving strategies.
  • Design and maintain the stewardship for donors and volunteers, including acknowledging and honoring donors and volunteers in the spirit of PBS.

Qualifications and Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Four to six years relevant development experience. Campaign experience a plus.
  • Experience with or interest in independent schools and Bay Area philanthropy.
  • Volunteer management experience, especially working with a highly skilled volunteer community.
  • Track record of confidentiality and discretion.
  • A friendly, positive, and proactive mindset.
  • Excellent time-management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Database experience required; Raiser’s Edge experience is a plus.
