Assistant Head of School for Advancement and Strategy

Phillips Brooks School offers a child-centered education that balances outstanding academics with a high-quality emotional intelligence program. This new position requires an innovative, growth-oriented mindset and demonstrated skills in leadership, advancement, and strategic thinking. Our advancement efforts and strategic initiatives are focused on inspiring energized and confident advocates of the school, with the goal of advancing the school’s mission among our constituents. This senior-level position reports to the Head of School and is a central and essential player in realizing this goal. You’ll have an opportunity to collaborate with an upbeat professional learning community that appreciates creativity and innovative advancement ideas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Head of School and Board to build the school’s future through new fundraising efforts, donor cultivation, and planning for a capital campaign.
  • Strengthen the school’s external relations through alumni programming, affinity groups, vibrant community relations, and constituent outreach to effectively message PBS’s brand, values, and reputation for excellence across current and prospective stakeholders.
  • Lead the Advancement Team’s integrated approach to fundraising, marketing, and community relations.
  • Work collaboratively with the PBS admissions program.
  • Identify, design, and implement new strategic initiatives and external partnerships that advance the school’s mission and distinctive program.
  • Motivate and coach the staff team through mentorship, evaluation, and leadership development to build up expertise and skills among PBS’s non-teaching professionals.

Other Responsibilities

  • Be a strategic thought-partner to the Head of School by developing goals and actions to advance PBS excellence and designing new initiatives to build enthusiasm for the future.
  • Develop the next generation of cultivating, asking, and thanking donors so the PBS culture of philanthropy is vibrant and giving is a meaningful experience for constituents.
  • Bring the advancement perspective to Board and team discussions so that decisions about campus development, school expansion, and new programs are integrated with the school’s advancement strategy.

Preferred Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree a plus)
  • Proven understanding of institutional advancement and strategic work (experience with fundraising and development efforts a plus)
  • Understanding of independent school culture
  • Experience mentoring and managing staff
  • Proven capacity to plan, organize, and implement a variety of projects with overlapping deadlines
