Dr. Sumbul Ahmad Desai
Sumbul joined the Board in 2020, and is also member of the Returning to School Task Force (RSTF). She volunteers actively in the classroom as a 2nd-grade Room Parent. She has a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, and initially worked in the media industry at The Walt Disney Company and ABC News before entering medicine. She earned her MD from Medical College of Virginia and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. Today, Sumbul serves as Vice President of Health at Apple, overseeing health initiatives including clinical product development, innovative clinical partnerships and medical research. She also oversees the regulatory and quality teams at Apple. Dr. Desai recently served as Vice Chair of Strategy and Innovation in the Department of Medicine at Stanford Medicine, as well as Associate Chief Medical Officer at Stanford Healthcare. She also served on faculty as an Inpatient Hospitalist through 2018. She still serves on faculty as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine. Sumbul and her husband Sanjay currently have two PBS students ('24). She loves to contribute to the community, most recently serving as a vaccinator with a small Menlo Park clinic and mentoring students at Stanford Medicine. In her spare time, Sumbul enjoys the outdoors and reading fiction.
