In 1995, a group of dedicated and visionary Board of Trustees and parents
determined to raise the funds necessary to provide The Phillips Brooks
School with a permanent home. The Board purchased property in Woodside and
started the process of permitting the land for a new school. After a lot of
hard work by many parents, it was concluded that it was unlikely the
necessary approvals for construction would be obtained and the land was
sold.
Although the dream of permanency was not immediately realized, the Board of
Trustees took action to ensure that the vision of our families in the 1990's
was not forgotten but was nurtured and brought to fruition. After the
successful sale of the property and after some challenging strategic work
assessing the school's current needs, a feasibility study was commenced in
2004 to share those needs with the school community, to gauge the school
community's interest in investing in PBS' present and future and to assist
the Board of Trustees with formulating PBS' fundraising plans for the
future. One of the initiatives to spring from the feasibility study was the
Board's decision to renovate the Avy Avenue Campus in order to make PBS'
facilities on par with the extraordinary level of teaching taking place
within its walls. Construction and renovation of the Avy Avenue Campus began
in June 2006 and was completed in 2007.
