Physical education at the Phillips Brooks School is based on building both
physical and social skills, gained through a progression of activities based
on grade level. Working with a partner or in a small group, students develop
a sense of community, teamwork and sportsmanship, while overcoming
challenges, increasing skills and playing together. Key to social
development is gaining an understanding of how to work both independently
and in groups during physical activities. Students strengthen their motor
and manipulative skills through games and fitness activities. They also
develop sportsmanship and teamwork qualities that help in after school
sports games. Students are also able to demonstrate respect for individual
differences in physical abilities. PBS graduates have developed a sense of
fair play and sportsmanship, which contributes to the development of
personal ethics, and that leads to making responsible lifelong decisions.
