Criteria for Admission
For applicants seeking to enter the Early Learning Center programs and Kindergarten, the Admission Committee pays close attention to curiosity and interest in learning; correlation between the school's philosophy and the goals of the parents; developmental readiness; social–emotional development; and the ability of the school to meet the needs of the child.
For applicants seeking to enter 1st through 5th grades, the Admission Committee focuses not only on the above factors but also on learning style and aptitude, academic achievement, self-motivation, and classroom citizenship.
Tuition and Fees (2016–2017)
Fees for the current school year are:
- Application Fee (non-refundable): $100
- Preschool: $20,500
- PreK: $25,500
- Kindergarten - Grade 5: $30,900
Central to Phillips Brooks School's mission is a commitment to socioeconomic diversity among its students.
- To fulfill this commitment, the school maintains a financial aid program and endeavors to make a Phillips Brooks education accessible to all qualified students.
- Financial aid applications must be filled out online.
- Please notify us of your interest in applying for financial aid so that we may help you initiate your online application.
- Financial aid applications are due by January 31, 2017, and completed applications with final tax returns are due by February 4, 2017.
PBS applications are due by January 3, 2017. Please contact the Admission Office for late inquiries. Decisions will be mailed on March 5, 2017.
School shuttle transportation is now available in certain areas. Please contact Admissions for details. Many families also choose to carpool from surrounding areas stretching from San Francisco to San Jose.
Pre-ordered lunches (optional) are provided through the PBSA, for a fee, for students in Kindergarten through Grade 5.
Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade are required to adhere to a dress code with multiple options. Information regarding the PBS dress code is provided to all enrolled PBS families during the summer through the PBS Parent Portal and the PBS e-newsletter, the Gazette.
An active Parent Association (PBSA) meets regularly and helps support the School through activities that include volunteering on campus, staffing the library, recycling, serving hot lunch, fund-raising, and much more. Room Parents help by chaperoning and helping organize class trips and/or other school events.

Before-school Care (K–5 only)
Monday–Friday from 7:30–8:10 a.m. (no charge)
Preschool: Monday–Friday from 1:30–6:00 p.m.
Pre-K through 5th grade: Monday–Thursday from 3:05–6:00 p.m. and Friday from 2:05–6:00 p.m.
Drop-in care is available on an emergency basis.
In addition to extended care, after-school enrichment programs are also available and vary each semester. Please contact PBS for pricing and schedules.
