New Faculty and Staff

Erik Carlson, Associate Head of School


Erik is a graduate of Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles.   He went on to Princeton University where he graduated cum laude with an A.B. in Art History.  From there, Erik went to New York University where he earned his Masters Degree in Art History.  Erik taught 8th and 9th grade history at Harvard-Westlake and also coached soccer and baseball.  A return to the east coast brought him to the Kent School in Connecticut where he served as Dean of Students.  In 2001, Erik accepted a position at Woodside Priory School as Social Studies Chair, Dean of Students and Dean of Boarding.  He has most recently served as the Head of Middle School at The Hamlin School in San Francisco for the past four years.

 

Catherine Chewning, Early Learning Center Assistant Teacher


Catherine joins the PBS community with a BA in Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania. She has most recently worked with the Sahuaro Girl Scout Council in Tuscon, Arizona as a Girl Experience Specialist and as an art teacher at the Civano Community School in Tuscon.

 

 

Melina Corlay, Development Staff Assistant


Melina has joined the PBS community to assist in the Development Office. She holds an Associates Degree in Child Psychology from Foothill College and is working on her Bachelors Degree at San Jose State University. She has previously worked as the Executive Assistant to the Director of Finance for Gigle Networks and as the Registrar/Academic Dean Assistant for Woodside Priory School.

 

 

 

Michael Eanes, Head of School


Michael has an extensive range of experience within independent schools across his 45 years of service. He served as Head of The Gunnery School for twelve years and he was Executive Director for the American Montessori Society for ten years. For the last six years he has served as Interim Head at six different schools: Oak Meadow Montessori School, Littleton, MA; St. Paul’s School for Girls, Baltimore, MD; The Willow School, Gladstone, NJ; The Park School, Baltimore, MD; Saddle River Day School, Saddle River, NJ and currently, the Capitol Hill Day School in Washington DC, a K-8 school of 235 students. Michael is a veteran independent school leader, possessing an exceptional track record of proven success as a permanent and as an interim head of school.

 

 Jessica Hanley, Fifth Grade Assistant Teacher


Jessica joins the PBS community with a Bachelor of Arts in English from Stanford University. She is currently pursuing her MFA in creative writing from San Jose State University. Jessica most recently taught creative writing at the Chadwick School Summer Program in Palos Verdes, California.

 

 

Ashley Madden, Admissions Associate


Ashley is a graduate of the University of Santa Cruz with a Bachelor of Arts in American Literature and a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Medicine. She has worked for the past eight years as a receptionist and administrative assistant at two companies and as an assistant loan officer at Wells Fargo.

 

 

Marie Marseille, Extended Day Director

Marie holds a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts and multiple subject teaching credential from the University of Santa Cruz. Marie most recently worked at Mountain Elementary School as a student teacher for the fifth and sixth grades. She has also worked at Calabasas Elementary School as a second grade student teacher in an English Immersion classroom. Marie will be working with our K-5 students in extended day care.

 

Valerie Nakamura, Fourth Grade Assistant Teacher

Valerie Nakamura

A familiar face on campus in the afternoon, former Extended Day Director, Valerie Nakamura, returns to PBS as the Fourth Grade Assistant Teacher. Valerie is originally from Hawaii. She is a graduate of the Punahou School and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Hawaii. For the past three years, Valerie has taught Second Grade.



 

Leslie Richardson, First Grade Learning Specialist


Leslie joins the PBS community from the East coast, having attended school there and teaching in Connecticut and Rhode Island. Leslie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Clark University as well as a Elementary Education Teacher Certification from the University of Rhode Island. Leslie has worked in a number of educational settings, most recently as a classroom teacher for first and second grades. Leslie is excited to be working with both first grade classes as their learning specialist.

 

 

Su-Chih Sun, Mandarin Teacher


Su-Chih is a graduate of National Cheng-Kung University in Taiwan with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. She has also pursued graduate study in this country at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, The University of Massachusetts-Boston and Harvard University Extension School. Su-Chih has taught math and science in Massachusetts for six years and then went on to teach Mandarin Chinese at public schools in Brookline and Concord, Massachusetts for the past four years. 

 

Catherine Waite, Spanish Teacher


Catherine graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Commerce.  She has a teaching credential in Spanish and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Education at Santa Clara University. Catherine is excited to join the PBS community.
