PBS is a place/school where…

Children are happy. Our daughter is excited every day to go to school and disappointed on the days when school is out. That to us, is the true test of a good environment for children.

What is it like to be a parent here?

As a parent at Phillips Brooks, we have been most impressed with the way the school embraces parents and makes them a part of the community. As a family where both mom and dad work outside the home, we still feel that we are every bit a part of the community as the parents that have the ability to be more involved in the school. While we may not participate in every board or activity at the school, we know the teachers, administrators, other parents and the children very well.

Why would you choose PBS over another school?

PBS boasts a fantastic teaching staff, great administration, strong curriculum and a high level of parent involvement, but there were a few things that helped us choose PBS.

First is the resources available to the children outside of the classroom. The art lab, science lab and language instruction were things that we wish we had had access to when we were in elementary school.

We also like Phillips Brooks because of its size – it is not too big or too small. Each grade consists of two classes of roughly 20 children each. With 40 students per grade, there is a nice balance of meeting many different children with different personalities, while not being over-whelmed by too many classmates.

Additionally, the campus is such a joyful place for the children to spend their days.

How has PBS impacted your child?

In the past two years since Ella has attended the school, we have seen her grow both academically as well as socially. She has really embraced the classroom and the activities that are a part of her day there. So many parts of the ELC structure have become a part of our routine at home. She has also really embraced her classmates and her teachers and speaks fondly of both everyday. The ELC is a play-based teaching environment where children direct the learning. Learning has become something she seeks out and more importantly, enjoys. This was facilitated without rigid academic structures.

What has your involvement been at the school?

As working parents, we have been participated in the classroom as well as partaken in the many community building activities that the school offers throughout the school year. The fall carnival is a great way to meet the parents and teachers.
