What do we need to apply to Phillips Brooks?
-
There are several steps in the admissions process to The Phillips Brooks School. The information provided below outlines the steps needed to establish your child's file. If you have any questions during this process, please call us. We look forward to working with you!
-
Can we visit the School?
-
As you begin the process for admissions, The Phillips Brooks School invites you to visit our campus. The school offers tours beginning in October. We would be happy to arrange a classroom observation once you have submitted your child's application. Tours and observations are two optional steps in the process of applying to the School.
-
Tours
-
Prospective parents are invited to tour the School. Each tour includes an overview of the campus, a classroom visit, and a brief question and answer session. Tours last approximately one and a half hours and are for adults only. Please call the admissions office to schedule a tour date.
-
Open House
-
Prospective parents are invited to come to the School¹s Open House on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 6:30 pm. This is an adult only event. Parents will have an opportunity to meet the classroom and specialist teachers and learn about the School¹s curriculum. Please RSVP to this event by calling the Admissions Office (650-854-4545 x137).
-
Observations
-
Prospective parents are invited to visit one or two classes to see the program in action after they have submitted their application. This is the best way to see if PBS is a fit for your family. Observations consist of a 20 minute visit to one or two classrooms and are for adults only. Please call the Admissions Office to schedule an observation appointment.
-
What do we need to submit to the School?
-
The School needs several different submissions to complete your child's application, including ones completed by you and your child's teacher. Following is a list of requirements for your child's file. These documents will be accepted on a rolling basis.
-
Application & Parent/Guardian Statement
-
All applicants must submit an Application for Admission and a Parent/Guardian Statement. We also ask that you submit an $85 application fee or complete and return the enclosed application fee waiver form with your child¹s application. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
-
Teacher Recommendation Form
-
For children applying to the ELC through Grade 5, complete the top of the teacher recommendation form and give it to your child's teacher. These forms are confidential and should be sent by the child's teacher directly to The Phillips Brooks School Admissions Office.
-
Report Cards and Standardized Testing
-
Please submit copies of your child's most recent report card/progress report from their current school. We also request the results of any standardized testing which your child may have taken during the current or previous school year. Report cards and testing results must be submitted to the Admissions Office.
-
Tuition Assistance
-
Central to The Phillips Brooks School's mission is a commitment to socio-economic diversity among its students. To fulfill this commitment, the school maintains a strong tuition assistance program, which seeks to ensure that a Phillips Brooks education remains accessible to qualified students. Tuition assistance applications (PFS) are mailed to all applicants upon request. These forms must be completed and submitted to the Admissions Office by January 8, 2010. For more information about tuition assistance, click here to visit the Financial Aid page. Please call the PBS Business Office (650-854-4545 x117) if you have further questions about Tuition Assistance.
-
What happens next?
-
After the School receives your child's application, you will be contacted by the Admissions Office to schedule your child's visit(s) to campus. This schedule is dependent on your child¹s age and grade level. To help us get to know your child better, we have designed an age appropriate process. This process includes achievement testing, a shadow visit and an interview (a parent/guardian interview for applicants to Grades 1-5; a family interview and playgroup for applicants to ELC and Kindergarten).
-
When do we find out about admissions decisions?
-
We send out our decisions at the same time other elementary schools send their decisions. Admissions decision letters will be mailed on March 17, 2011.
-
What if my child is not accepted to Phillips Brooks?
-
Unfortunately, space and program do not allow the school to accept all applicants. If your child is not accepted to PBS, it does not mean that your child is not qualified, but rather, there are many qualified applicants and few spaces to accommodate them.
The Phillips Brooks School maintains a wait pool. Wait pooled applications will remain active in the admissions process for the following school year.
The Phillips Brooks School admits students of any race, color, religion, national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school and does not discriminate on the basis of these factors in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, or athletic and other school-administered programs.
